Back-lit VS. Edge-lit LED Panel Light

Back lit ceiling panel light work by placing the LED light sources at the back aluminum plate of the panel. Such lights are called back-lit or direct-lit(direct lit) panel or down light. (france called dalle)

The back light panel lamp uses the LED luminous angle to do the reasonable LED spacing design, and cooperates with the diffusion plate and the lamp height to achieve the ideal light mixing effect. Emphasis on high brightness, with 595 specifications can reach 4000lm, high light efficiency products, replace the traditional grille lamp panel. Thicker, usually thicker than 40mm. The light output is more uniform, and the brightness uniformity can reach more than 0.9. The process requirements are relatively simple.

The edge lit-emitting panel lamp uses the light guide plate technology to design the light guide plate dot according to the arrangement of the LED lamp beads and the luminous angle of the lamp beads, so that the light passes through the light guide plate to achieve the effect of brightness uniformity. The brightness is low, generally within the 3000lm according to the specification of 595*595mm (600x600mm), and can be used in some occasions where the ceiling is low. It is thinner and the thickness is less than 15mm. The surface uniformity is poor, and the highest brightness uniformity is 0.85. If it is not handled well, there will be obvious bright edges around. The cleanliness of the workshop is required to be high, the process control is not good, and the rate of good products is low (mainly due to dust leading to the bright spot in the light guide plate).

The light guide plate of edge lit panel have several kind of materials,the most usually items are PMMA (acrylic) and PS: though both are belong to PC, PMMA can keep the light won't yellowing for 7 years, PS can only keeps not get brown for 5000 hours.

Both back lit and edge lit panels are made for retrofit/replacing old ceiling light and fixtures: 600x600mm 300x1200mm, 600x120mm.
